E39 M5 Touring Prototype Revealed

Remember the BMW E39 M5 Wagon? Well you shouldn’t, because there never was one. Sure there were some who threw an M5 engine in their 525iT, but never the real deal from the M division. Remember that there was a 5-door M5 the generation before (E34) and after (E61) the E39 M5. BMW strongly considered producing one, and even made this prototype version. Rumors are abound that plans for production were axed due to problems with the rear axle, but perhaps the real death sentence for this M5 wagon was poor projected sales. Shown to the public as BMW is celebrating 25 years of the M5...

Mitsu Evo X/ Lancer VR4 Wagon Rendered

Waiting on a replacement for the Evo IX Wagon? Well your wait is certainly not over, but we’ve got an image to fan the flames. This rendering from the Netherlands’s site “Galantfans” (the Lancer is known as the Galant in Japan and Europe) shows what the Evo X Wagon might look like. While we are big fans of Photoshop and wagon renderings, it must be said that this image is certainly NOT what the next Lancer Wagon will look like. See any elements in this image that remind you of other (hint: European) wagons? Yep, that’s right, from A-pillar back you are looking at a VW Passat Wagon. And yes, those wheels are from a BMW M5. That being said, we couldn’t care less. What we do care about is that Mitsubishi hasn’t released an Evo X Wagon. Lets go Mitsu, we are tired of waiting!

Touring Superleggera To Unveil Bentley “Shooting Star”

Milan-based Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera has announced a new 3-door shooting brake model. Due to be unveiled on March 2nd at the 2010 Geneva Salon, the “Shooting Star” will be Touring’s first Bentley based coach build. The new bespoke model will have a limited run of “up to 20 units,” based either on the standard 552hp Continental coupe, or the 600hp “Speed” version. This will be Touring’s second custom-built hatchback, after the Maserati Quattroporte based Bellagio Fastback. The company states that the Shooting Star will have a “new interior [which] features two completely foldable individual rear seats,” creating a luggage space over two meters in length. For final details, check back in early March when the Shooting Star is formally unveiled.

The Coolest Taxi Wagon You’ll Never See
Taxi wagons just make sense. Not only can they comfortably fit four passengers, but there is double the room for luggage in the trunk. In the United States and Canada, this is why so many cabs are now minivans (Toyota Sienna) or small SUVs (Ford Escape). As usual, across the pond (both ponds actually) they prefer the wagon.
Enter the Honda Accord Tourer Taxi Wagon. Already on the road in Germany, this spacious wagon is powered by a 2.2L i-DTEC diesel four-cylinder. Not only does this engine deliver 258 lb-ft of torque, but it will return an average of 35.7 miles per gallon...

VATH Tunes Old E63, Still Silly Quick

At the very moment all eyes are focused on Mercedes’ new E63 AMG Wagon, German tuner VATH has decided…to tune the outgoing model. While this may seem anachronistic, for those who currently own a W211-series AMG Wagon but won’t be upgrading anytime soon, VATH’s timing is perfect. Why buy the next generation Merc battlewagon when you can make your current wagon even faster? While the new W212 E63 has a “healthy” 525hp, VATH’s creation packs nearly sixty more horses.
Yet increasing the horsepower and torque (to 568 lb-ft) of the E is just part of VATH’s performance formula. A retuned ECU is a major reason for the power boost, but also increases throttle responsiveness and efficiency. To help the 6.2L hand-built V8 exhale easier, VATH has fitted less restrictive exhaust manifolds and an entirely new stainless steal performance exhaust system with high-flow cats.

Saab Dealers Now Accepting Orders for 9-3X

Only days ago on the brink of liquidation, Saab is already back in the game. Moving ahead under its new Dutch owner (supercar making Spyker), the Swedish brand has just given to go-ahead for customers to begin ordering its newest model. The Saab 9-3x is the brand’s response to Subaru Outback, Audi A4 Allroad, and other high-riding wagons.
Compared to the 9-3 SportCombi, the “X” is 1.4 inches higher, features new front and rear plastic bumpers for durability, and a redesigned interior to accommodate outdoor gear. While customers in Europe will have the additional options of a 180hp 1.9L turbo diesel or 210 2.0L “Biopower” I4, U.S. buyers can only select the venerable petrol 2.0L turbo-four. Specifically, the 2.0L gasoline-powered four-banger will produce 210hp and 300 NM of torque. The U.S.-spec 9-3x...

Wagonist Magazine Brings JDM Goodness Straight to Your Mailbox
Straight from the shores of Japan comes a magazine that makes us seriously look into learning the Japanese language. From the nation that loves wagons, and has a magazine for virtually everything, the “Wagonist Magazine” is pure awesomeness. The magazine certainly takes a liberal approach to the definition of a wagon (includes CUVs, crossovers, and cars most Americans and Europeans would consider minivans), but this gives the writers so much more to cover! Stay tuned for updates on this fascinating publication, as we are bringing on board a Japanese editor who can translate the Wagonist goodness for all to read!
